Television Spot Highlights California's Coal Addiction

Educates on New Clean Power Option

Green Power Campaign Focuses on Residents

LOS ANGELES — A 30 second television spot produced by Academy Award winning production house "Bedford Falls" begins airing in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. The spot graphically illustrates the air polluting worst of California's electricity generation and encourages viewers to switch to green or environmentally friendly electricity companies.

"This spot is part of our Go Green Power campaign which educates the public on their energy choices," said Matt Petersen, Executive Director of Global Green USA (GGUSA). "Television is the medium which most Californians and Americans get information to make consumer choices. It's imperative they know that this choice is one of the most important they'll make for their children's future."

In the new California electricity market, residents, businesses, and local governments have the ability to choose their electricity company. By staying with their current power providers, 20% of a consumer's electric payment supports out of state coal plants, which are among the dirtiest air polluters in the country. Coal is the filthiest form of electricity generation contributing to both air pollution and global climate change gases.

The most egregious environmental violator is the Mohave Generating Station located in Nevada. Mohave is majority owned and operated by Southern California Edison and supplies 20% of its power to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power(LADWP). It was grandfathered into the Clean Air Act, has few pollution controls, and is the center of several law suits, including a recently filed action by the Navajo nation.

"Citizens of California can now vote with their electricity dollars to help the environment," said V. John White of the Center of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies. "By making a three minute phone call, you switch to a green electricity company, help clean our air, and switch off the coal furnaces for good."

Green or renewable power includes generation from wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass sources. It is naturally renewed and causes little or no emissions into the air.

The spot includes an 800 number, 877-246-4733 and a Website www.gogreenpower.org. By contacting the number, people will be mailed more information, or going to the Website will allow them to directly switch to a green power provider.

Global Green USA works in cooperation with individuals, industry, and governments to create a global value shift toward sustainable development.
