V International conference hosted by Green Cross Russia "Role of non-governmental organizations in environmental education" is a next step in the continuous environmental education and a natural continuation of four previous conferences "Environmental education of children" (Moscow, 1995), "Between school and university"(Tula, 1996), "Environmental education in universities" (Vladimir, 1997), "Public environmental education" (Puschino, 1998). This conference was a part of the II All-Russian Congress on Nature Protection, which took place in Saratov on June 3-5, 1999.

Green Cross International, Fred Foundation (the Netherlands), International Independent University of Environmental and Political Sciences (IIUEPS) (Moscow), Foundation "Development and Environment" (Moscow), Moscow Institute of Business Management were co-organizers of the conference.

More than 80 scientists, professors, representatives of authorities, public activists from 20 regions of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Ukraine as well as from the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, the US, Switzerland took part in the conference.

Baranovsky Sergey, Green Cross Russia Chairman made an opening speech.

Resolution was adopted on the results of discussions.
