different National Organizations participating in the youth contest
have submitted their candidates see YC98-99

The
international jury has just ended its selection: the winners of
the second international edition (1998/99) of the Earth Charter
Youth Contest have been decided. see international
winners
The
final prize ceremony will be organized as follows:
DATE
: October 29th, 30th and 31st 1999.
PLACE
: Venice (Italy).
REASON
: because, during the last weeks, we have subscribed an agreement
with the Italian State that hands a little island in the lagoon
- San Giacomo in Paludo - to Verde Ambiente (an Italian association
supporter of Green Cross Italy). Green Cross will be involved in
all its aspects.
ORGANIZATION
:
- October
29th, Friday, 4/8 p.m., multisectorial international round table
on the world's main environmental problems concerning conflicts
and opportunities of development.
- October
29th, Friday, within 6 p.m., arrival and check in of the delegations.
- Between
Saturday and Sunday: Presentation of the Project concerning the
recovering of the Island of San Giacomo, an international site
for environment, education, peace and rights of the future generations.
Visit on the island for personalities, children and media.
- October
30th, 9.30 a.m., inauguration of the exposition of the children's
works.
- October
30th, 10/13 a.m., prize ceremony in the presence of national and
international authorities and personalities.
- October
30th or October 31st excursion to Venice and to the lagoon.
- October
30th, 8.30/12 p.m., fund raising evening (we are still organizing
it, a concert/a dinner).
PARTICIPANTS
:
- Students:
nearly 200 Italian students (a delegation of the 700 winners)
and all the winners of the first and second international edition
(from Argentina, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Switzerland,
Sweden, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, South Korea).
- Companions:
teachers of the delegations.
- Green
Cross personalities and special guests.
BUDGET
:
- The
main part of the travel expenses on the Alitalia distances for
the winners of the first and second edition will be covered by
the organization. We remind you that children must travel with
an adult that will be completely responsible for them. Therefore
we invite all GCNO to choose carefully the adult that will accompany
the young winners;
- The
travel expenses for the guests - on Alitalia distances - will
be covered by the organization;
- The
organization will also cover the board and lodging expenses for
the persons mentioned in point 1 and 2;
- The
organization will be glad to invite and to collect requests of
participation from other persons who would like to take part in
the ceremony and if necessary to help them to obtain reduced prices
for the travel - Alitalia - and for the lodging; we will let you
know the prices during the following weeks;
- The
organization will cover the excursions;
- Green
Cross International is in charge of the international prices,
for a total of US$ 30,000;
- GCItaly
expects all GCNO to collaborate to the best realization of the
event and to contain the estimated expenses. For example they
can take charge of their travel or contribute to the general expenses;
- GCItaly
expects GCInternational to collaborate to assure the presence
of President Gorbaciov and his participation to the initiative;
eventually also the participation of other authorities.
